31 Days of Oscar on TCM this Month

Every year movie-lovers of all kinds are given a treat in February, around "Oscar" time, with Academy Award winning movies for a whole month.  It begins on February 1st.  I don't know about everyone else, but after having great movies to watch 24/7 for 31 days, it is a big let-down for me--for several months--to go back to the mostly mediocre movies in their usual daytime line-up.

Last night I recorded The Life of Emile Zola on the DVR and am trying to watch it while I write this, which is not an easy feat since my brain refuses to multi-task anymore, so I will probably have to rewind when I'm done here. And tonight, 3 good Bogie movies are playing:  Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, and Key Largo are on. The latter 2 will be going on my DVR.  I've seen Casablanca one too many times.

I meant to post this information before the 1st of February, but the date caught me by surprise.  Too much school work has led to do too little blogging here for more than a year.  With so little time to watch movies, and a DVR, maybe I won't miss it so much this year when the 31 Days is over.

To check out TCM's line-up (and other goodies) for Days of Oscar, follow the link below.  Enjoy the month.  All hail to classic movies!

My post today goes away from the movies as I am posting a podcast for Bookcamp Class about things to do in Topeka.  Please listen to my podcast and follow the link to look for more information for entertainment and events around town and at the Washburn University campus.  There is a surprising amount of things that would keep anyone busy all year around.

Topeka Road Runner’s Ice hockey games at the Topeka Expo Center tonight and tomorrow at 7:05pm in the Landon Arena.  Tickets are as low as $11 and they play also next Friday and Saturday, November 25th and 26th  at 7:05pm.
Another event tonight (Friday the 18th) is the Grand Re-opening of the Governor’s Row House.  The admission is free and there are light hors’d’oeuvres and cocktails.  Sounds kind of fun to me.  That’s from 5-9pm on 811 South Buchanan, Topeka.
